The monument to Ivan Podkova, famous Cossack Chieftain, is located on the Square that was named after him in the center of the city.
Ivan Podkova is one of the heroes in the struggle of Ukrainian and Moldavian people against the Turkish invaders. The legends say that Ivan Podkova was unbelievably strong and he could easily bend the horse shoe.
In June 1578 Ivan Podkova was executed by the order of Polish government in Lvov. He was killed on the Ploshcha Rynok.
The monument was built in 1981 for free by sculptor Petro Kulik.
