5th century A.D. - the date when the Prince Kyi founded the city of Kyiv
9th century Kyiv became the capital of Eastern Slavic state known as Rus.
988-989 baptization of Rus by Prince Volodymyr the Great.
1019-1054 Prince Yaroslav the Wise possessed Kyiv's throne.
11-12th centuries Kievan Rus became one of the largest civilized states in Europe famous for its monasteries and temples.
1157 - Assassination of Prince Yuriy Dolghorukyi , founder of Moscow in Kyiv.
1169 - Destruction and plundering of Kyiv by Prince Andriy Boholubskyi of Volodymyr-Suzdal - the son of Yuriy Dolghorukyi.
1240 - Destruction of the City by the Mongol-Tatar Horde of Baty Khan.

1982 - Celebration of the 1500th anniversary of Kyiv.
1986 - Chornobyl catastrophe.
1990 - The national blue-yellow flag of Ukraine hoisted near the building of city council.
1991 - Declaration of Ukraine's independence.
1995 - The Archistrategos Michael the old coat of arms became the emblem of Kyiv.
1997-2000 - Reconstruction of St. Michael's Cathedral.
1999- City had mayor elected for the first time, according to the Law on "The capital city of Ukraine" the hero-city of Kyiv adopted by Supreme Council
