Marine Station

Marine Station

Marine Station of Odessa is the largest and most modern in Ukraine. By its design and technical arsenal station does not yield to similar passenger terminals in Europe and world. Station is located in the heart of the city. Walking for 15-20 minutes you can easily reach the main attractions of Odessa - Deribasovskaya Street and the Greek Square. But by itself Seaport attracts vacationers. There are many architectural and historical monuments of the city, entertainments, and just bright seascapes with motor ships, yachts attract tourists. The distance from the Marine station to Airport is 8 km and to the Station is 3 km. From the Marine to the Bus station is 5 km. In the building of the Marine Station are based offices of banks, post offices, DHL, telephones, ATMs, bar and restaurant, the shop «Duty Free» and souvenir shops. There are offices of travel agencies where you can get last-minute tickets to anywhere in the world, or just ask for advice, to book train tickets and tickets to all the countries of the world.

From the history of Odessa:

Odessa Marine Station was rebuilt again in the New pier in 1968 by architects Kremlyakov and Golovin. . Today, after significant changes, Odessa Marine Station is the heart of the modern metropolis of glass and metal. International biggest cruise liners are taken here. In front of the building of the Marine Station is the track "Golden Boy", which gives good luck to all departing to cruise.

Since 1994, cargo turnover has increased by dialing one million tons per year until 1998 when it was processed 22.18 million tons, in 1999-26, 9 million tons. Port usually manufactures for about one third of the turnover of all the ports of Ukraine.

In 2001, next to the building of the Marine Station grew luxury high-rise hotel "Odessa".

Just behind the hotel in the territory of Odessa Marine Station you can visit the Museum of anchors, where exhibits, collected in different regions of the Black sea. Part of anchors divers rose from the seabed of the harbor water; others were taken from Berdyansk and Zatoka. But the core of the exhibition consists of items from the special collection of the Museum of the Marine fleet. Museum of anchors has spread out alfresco, and will expend in course of time, primarily due to the anchors, taken from the ship, still resting at the seabed of the Black Sea.

The church of St. Nicholas is in the end of the pier.

It is hard to imagine that 60 years Odessa have existed, maritime city, without a cathedral or even a chapel of St. Nikolas the Miracle-Worker. Indigenously of the Christian world seafarers have been blessed before the voyage, and on return, they laid gifts to the holy icon.

In May 1993, the first stone was solemnly laid, marking the start of construction. They also put the cross and the board, informing that there would be church. September 2, 1994 there were installed crosses and ship's bells. On October 20, the feast day of icon of the mother of "Tenderness", the church was consecrated by Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine, he presented the icon and the relics of St. Nicholas the Miracle-Worker, delivered from the Italian city Bari.

Today the church again called St. Nicholas, or Primorskiy. Although not even from a distance similar to the one that existed there at one time, and its architecture and interior furnishing, it astonishes conservative visitors, because even on the outside it is more like a modern office than the church, which are all used to see it.Classical architecture is simply would not combine with the general aspect of a modern Marine station. So architect decided on a bold move and went to the Western way. In this way the first and currently the only Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the modern architectural style appeared.

Opposite the church is "Sea Club TTF-port of Odessa."

Marine Station is always decorated in a special way in the days of the events in its showroom. During the exhibitions (usually from Thursday to Sunday) across the overpass hanging flags of the different countries, on the New Year holidays all is decorated with pine branches and Christmas toys.

It can take up to five ships at a time, the navigation is year-round. If you are lucky, you will see a huge multi-storey ocean liner visiting Odessa on a cruise to the Mediterranean and Black seas (usually ships call on in the summer and autumn). Or look at one of the ferry line Odessa-Istanbul or catamaran Odessa-Varna, Odessa-Yalta. On all these routes you can book tickets in Odessa travel companies, with offices at the Marine Station. With the promenade sea station can perfectly see the ship. Ship, as big as a whale, in itself is a fascinating spectacle for any child.

At the hotel there is a sculpture "Wife of seaman" and a transmitter play songs by Utesov about Odessa and the sea.
